About Roseville Pottery

In 1892 George F. Young founded The Roseville Pottery Company in Zanesville, Ohio. Zanesville became an ideal location for potters because of the rich clay deposits in the area. In 1898 the company moved to modern facilities in Zanesville and entered the art pottery market in the early 1900s to compete with manufacturers. Perhaps the most collectible Roseville Pottery was produced during the 'middle period' (1920's-1930's). Frank Ferrell was the art director responsible for introduction of such patterns as Sunflower, Futura, Wisteria, Dahlrose, Ferella and more. After WWII, the Roseville Pottery Company went into production of the floral lines such as Zephyr Lily, Snowberry, Freesia etc. Attempts were made to produce a line of modernistic dinnerware and the company was forced to close in 1954.

Valuing Roseville

Although prices have stabilized somewhat during recent years, shoppers need to shop discriminately to add to a collection. Quality varies from piece to piece.
